In 2026 more and more people are waking up to the benefits of soft, moisture-wicking, and breathable bamboo sheet sets.

But greenwashing is a problem. Some manufacturers market their sheets as sustainable when, in fact, they contain only a small percentage of bamboo.

The best bamboo bedding brands, like Ettitide and BedVoyage, share the following characteristics.

  • Sustainably made from organic bamboo grown with no pesticides or fertilizers
  • Use fabrics with high (often 100%) bamboo content
  • Independently certified by bodies such as Eco-Cert, OEKO-TEX, and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

We spent over 8 months personally testing some of the best (and worst) organic bamboo sheets on the market. Here's a list of the brands we recommend.

Best Organic or Non-Toxic Bamboo Sheet Brands (Fully Sleep Tested)

Why It's the Best Overall: Ettitude is my #1 pick because it has an impressive number of third-party certifications. Notably, they're one of only two brands on my list of recommendations to carry the prestigious B Corp certification (the other being Cariloha).

Ettitude uses bamboo grown with 100% rainwater and processed in a closed-loop system that recycles water up to 200 times. According to Ettitude, this saves 99% more water than cotton and 58% more than standard bamboo viscose.

Ettitude's bamboo sheets come with a 60-night sleep trial. This is not the longest trial of the brands I recommend (Quince offers an impressive 365 nights). However, 60 nights still gives you more than enough time to sleep on these sheets and decide if they're right for you.

Why It's a Top Choice for Hot Sleepers: Ettitude states third-party testing shows its CleanBamboo® Signature Sateen delivers 17% better temperature regulation than cotton, viscose, and Tencel. It also wicks moisture 31% faster than bamboo viscose and Tencel. Ettitude cites FTTS-FA-019 for the cooling test and AATCC 197 for the vertical wicking test.

Personal Experience: I tested Ettitude's Signature Bamboo Fitted Sheet for two months during Florida's humid summer season.

My wife is a restless sleeper who tosses around all night (and she says the same about me). So we needed a fitted sheet that would stay in place without constantly slipping off the corners, as our old cotton sheets did.

The king-size Ettitude bamboo fitted sheet I tested has an elastic skirt that keeps the sheet tight across all four corners. The fabric feels silky smooth without being slippery.

The Slate color we chose looks exactly like the website photos. It's a soft neutral gray that works well with our existing bedding.

I wash our Ettitude bamboo fitted sheet weekly in cold water on the gentle cycle and line-dry it rather than tumble dry. After eight weeks of testing Ettitude's Signature Bamboo Fitted Sheet, the elastic still grips firmly. There are also no visible signs of wear or pilling.

Silky-smooth feel that suits people who want "buttery" soft sheets
Designed for hot sleepers
60-night sleep trial
Deep-pocket fit that stays put on thicker mattresses
Premium price point
Sleep trial length is okay, but not the longest available

Why It's the Best Budget Option: Quince's factory-direct model removes wholesale markup, which helps keep prices low. Quince bamboo sheets cost roughly 50-60% less than Ettitude (my #1 pick). Both brands sell 100% bamboo options, use sateen weave construction, and have OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification for chemical safety.

Ettitude has additional certifications (B Corp, FSC, and Eco-Cert in particular) that justify its higher price point. However, if cost is a priority, and you're happy to compromise on certifications, Quince is a strong budget option.

Quince effectively offers a 365-night sleep trial. It allows you to use (and wash) your sheets for 365 days and return them if you're not happy. This is a longer trial than any other brand I tested. Just remember to keep the original package, as you'll need it if you decide to return your Quince bamboo sheets.

Personal Experience: I ordered a Quince Bamboo Sheet Set for my youngest daughter's room after she complained about overheating at night. She's going through a phase of expressing herself through color, and her bedroom is now almost entirely red.

My daughter has a lot of phases, so I wanted something affordable but still comfortable and OEKO-TEX certified. The burgundy Quince sheets fit perfectly with her current room design without breaking the bank. This was important in case she wishes to redecorate again in six months.

The Quince Bamboo Sheet Set arrived a week after ordering, and I washed them before putting them on her bed. The sheets felt smooth and silky from the first night. My daughter has told me that she's waking up less sweaty and more refreshed in the morning.

Pros & Cons

Budget-friendly bamboo sateen option
OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified for extra peace of mind
365-day returns (including washed/used sheets)
Available with or without a flat sheet
Smooth, silky feel suits hot sleepers who prefer slick sheets
Original packaging is required for returns
Warranty is not stated for bedding

Why It's the Best for Hot Sleepers: BedVoyage's bamboo sheets have a tight twill weave that helps prevent heat trapping and improves breathability throughout the night. The brand claims that its bamboo sheets wick moisture 3x faster than cotton and provide a sleep surface that is 3-5 degrees cooler.

Personal Experience: BedVoyage bamboo sheets were a joy to test. They're super comfy, allow air to flow, and are very well-made. After months of testing and weekly washing, they are showing no signs of pigmentation or fading.

I love how well our BedVoyage sheets stay in place throughout the night. The 18" deep pockets fit snugly, and the 12" extra flat sheet length provides more tucking material.

BedVoyage uses organically grown Moso bamboo. There are no official organic Moso bamboo certifications available at this time. However, BedVoyage has confirmed to me that all of the fabric used is organic.

BedVoyage chose to change its manufacturing partner from China to India to improve quality and sustainability. It passes an annual SMETA audit to ensure fair wages and safe working conditions. Bedvoyage manufactures sheets using 70% wind-powered green energy and recycles 99% of water through an effluent treatment plant.

Pros & Cons

300 thread count and tight twill feel smooth

Why It's a Standout Budget Option: BAMPURE is another budget option to consider alongside Quince. Both brands are comparable in price and quality. But Quince is my top budget pick because of its 365-day return policy.

BAMPURE is still worth considering, though, if you're on a budget and prefer the ease of Amazon to the option of testing the sheets for a full year. With BAMPURE, you're still getting OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified bamboo sheets, just at a lower price point than most other brands I tested.

Personal Experience: The BAMPURE bamboo sheet set I tested really impressed me. The sateen weave had a silky soft feel that was maybe slightly too slippery for my preference. However, that's just me being picky. Sateen sheets tend to be that way, and the overall comfort of this bamboo sheet set was excellent.

BAMPURE markets its bamboo as a "cozy, allergy-friendly haven for those with sensitive skin." I suffer from hayfever and often wake feeling irritated in the summer, so I paid close attention to how my skin felt with BAMPURE.

After three months of use, I noticed fewer nights when I woke up feeling uncomfortable or irritated. I did not run a controlled test, and several factors could affect it, so I can't attribute the change solely to the sheets.

There are some negative reviews on Amazon about these sheets being made of polyester rather than bamboo. I've spoken to BAMPURE, and they confirm that they sent a small number of customers the wrong sheet sets. The BAMPURE sheet set I received was 100% viscose from bamboo.

Pros & Cons

Affordable bamboo-derived viscose option for shoppers on a budget
OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 Certified
Silky sleeping surface
Silky sleeping surface
Manufacturing country and warranty terms are not clearly stated
Some customers report having been sent the wrong sheets

Why It's the Best for Sensitive Skin: PlushBeds markets these sheets specifically for sensitive skin. The brand describes the fabric as "anti-bacterial, anti-allergenic, and odor-resistant." PlushBeds also state, "our bamboo sheets have a light and silky weave, that's soft and gentle on even the most sensitive skin."

As someone with sensitive skin, especially during the summer months, I found that the PlushBeds sheets I tested did not cause itching or irritation.

Personal Experience: PlushBeds makes its bamboo sheets from rayon, which, in my experience, can be one of the less sustainable bamboo fabrics. However, after thoroughly researching how PlushBeds sources its rayon, I'm happy that these sheets are sustainable.

The Plushbed bamboo sheets I tested have extra-deep 22" pockets that easily fit my thickest mattress (even when I added multiple toppers). 22" makes PlushBeds the joint deepest fitted sheets of all the brands I'm recommending, along with Bearaby. The next deepest are BedVoyage and Cariloha at 18".

PlushBeds does not disclose thread count for this sheet set, but they state that the quality is "comparable to high thread-count Egyptian cotton." My experience testing these sheets for three months backs up that claim. These sheets from PlushBeds feel very luxurious and would not be out of place in a boutique hotel.

PlushBeds sheets are covered by a five-year warranty. This is the longest warranty of all the brands I tested and shows how confident PlushBeds is in the quality of its product.

Pros & Cons

Smooth and silky eel that suits sensitive-skin preferences
Deep 22" pockets (perfect for thick mattresses and toppers)
5-year warranty
Premium, "hotel-like" feel
No thread count disclosed
No certifications for sheets (but lots for mattresses)

KEY FACTS

Why It's the Best Luxury Bamboo Sheet Brand: Cariloha's bamboo comes from its authorized bamboo farm that stretches across the green hills of Sichuan Province, China. This bamboo is used to produce sheets that Cariloha claims give you "the comfort, quality, and luxury of a beach resort in your own home."

Cariloha's most luxurious range, Retreat, is made from bamboo lyocell produced through a closed-loop process that reclaims 98% of the ingredients and water.

Why It's Good for Color Options: Cariloha offers three bamboo sheet lines, each with its own color range. At the time of writing, there are 24 color options available across the three lines.

Cariloha Resort offers 12 options, ranging from neutral tones like Coconut Milk and Stone to deeper shades like Onyx and Harbor Gray. Cariloha Classic has seven color choices, including island-inspired names like Tahitian Breeze and Sea Glass. Cariloha Retreat has the fewest color options at just five.

Personal Experience: I tested all three of Cariloha's bamboo sheet lines over six months to compare how luxurious each fabric felt.

The Cariloha Classic line has a 250-thread count twill weave that feels similar to high-quality cotton. Cariloha Resort has a sateen weave that feels smoother against my skin. Cariloha Retreat is made with lyocell and is the softest and most luxurious of the three lines I tested.

All three Cariloha sets fit our mattress perfectly. The corner bands keep the fitted sheet firmly in place even when my wife tosses and turns during her restless sleep periods.

Pros & Cons

Premium lyocell option (Retreat)
Sateen options for a silkier feel (Resort, Retreat)
Twill option for a more cotton-like feel (Classic)
Corner bands help keep the fitted sheet in place
B Corp & OEKO-TEX certified
Supports a One Tree Planted reforestation programme
High price point (especially the Retreat line)
Colors can vary by line and availability

Why It's the Best for Long-Term Use: Bearaby's Second Skin Sheets stay fresher for longer between washes than any other brand I tested. I manage to stretch laundry day to every two weeks for Bearaby, compared to one week for the other brands I've recommended.

Bearaby claims that this is because "Woven into the bamboo fibers of our sheets is our proprietary smart botanicals – a blend of peppermint, mint, and marine proteins – that acts as a natural defense against bacteria and germs. This botanical formula eliminates 99.9% of bacteria directly within the fabric, helping prevent the buildup of dust mite-attracting microbes for a fresher, cleaner sleep."

Bearby's 99.9% claim is not just marketing fluff either. Its Second Skin Sheets have been tested to ISO 20743 (a recognised test standard for measuring antibacterial performance in textiles).

Personal Experience: My eldest daughter started college this year and wanted bedding that wouldn't need constant washing. So I dove into obsessive research mode!

Bearaby's Second Skin Sheets came out of my research as the best option. The brand claims "our antimicrobial Second Skin Sheets stay fresh for 10-15 nights between cleanings - which means less laundry and more rest."

My daughter's experience has matched Bearaby's claim. She recently told me that she washes them every 15-20 days, but her roommate has to wash her sheets weekly.

Bearaby's sheets are OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified, which matters to me when sending my daughter to live in a dorm with poor ventilation. This certification means that Bearaby sheets have been tested in independent labs for harmful substances.

Pros & Cons

Antimicrobial technology actively works between washes
22" deep-pocket fit for thick mattresses
OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 adds chemical-testing reassurance
Exceptional softness and drape
No country of manufacture disclosed

How We Tested

My family and I personally tested each bamboo sheet set on this list over a period of eight months. We slept on every set for at least one month to evaluate real-world performance. Friends who run hot at night helped us test sheets specifically marketed for temperature regulation. Family members with sensitive skin helped us evaluate comfort and irritation levels.

Our testing criteria for these reviews were as follows.

  1. Certifications and Third-Party Verification: We prioritized brands with credible certifications like OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, B Corp, FSC, and organic certifications. We verified each certification claim directly with the certifying bodies.
  2. Fabric Type and Sustainability: We researched how each brand produces its bamboo fabric (viscose, lyocell, rayon, or linen). We contacted manufacturers to understand their processing methods and water usage. Closed-loop systems and organic bamboo scored highest in our evaluation.
  3. Thread Count and Weave Quality: We tested sheets with thread counts ranging from 158 to 400. We evaluated sateen, twill, and percale weaves to understand how each affects softness, breathability, and durability.
  4. Bamboo Content Percentage: We rejected any sheets with less than 50% bamboo content or sheets that mixed bamboo with synthetic materials like polyester. We prioritized 100% bamboo options.
  5. Temperature Regulation: We tested sheets during humid summer and cooler winter months. We measured subjective comfort levels and noted whether we woke up sweaty or overheated.
  6. Moisture-Wicking Performance: We paid attention to how quickly sheets dried after perspiration and how they felt during the night.
  7. Durability Testing: We washed each sheet set weekly (or bi-weekly in Bearaby's case) for the entire testing period. We inspected for pilling, loose threads, fading, and elastic degradation.
  8. Fit and Deep Pocket Performance: We tested fitted sheets on mattresses ranging from 12 inches to 16 inches thick. We added toppers to some mattresses to test deeper pocket claims.
  9. Feel and Texture: We evaluated whether sheets felt silky, smooth, slippery, or cotton-like. We noted which textures suited different sleeper preferences.
  10. Price and Value: We compared prices across similar fabric types and certification levels to identify genuine value.
  11. Sleep Trials and Warranties: We reviewed return policies, sleep trial lengths, and warranty terms.

We rejected 11 products that did not meet these criteria. No brands featured in this article are permitted to pay for inclusion or a higher ranking. Our recommendations are based solely on our testing experience and the criteria outlined above.

Is Bamboo Bedding Worth It?

Bamboo bedding is a more environmentally friendly choice than synthetic materials such as nylon and polyester. But is it worth the extra money, and how does it compare to other eco-friendly fabrics like cotton?

Here are the pros and cons of bamboo sheets.

Pros

  • Soft and Comfortable: Bamboo textiles are incredibly soft and luxurious. They have a silky feel that is often compared to cashmere or silk.
  • Recommended for Eczema Sufferers: The National Eczema Society recommends bamboo as one of the preferred fabrics, citing its cooling, absorbency, and antibacterial properties.
  • Eco-friendly: Bamboo is a sustainable and renewable resource that grows quickly without the need for pesticides or fertilizers. This makes it a more environmentally friendly choice than conventional cotton sheets.
  • Breathable and Moisture-wicking: Bamboo bed covers are highly breathable and moisture-wicking, which means they help regulate body temperature and keep you cool and dry throughout the night.

Cons

  • More Expensive: Bamboo sheets can be more expensive than conventional sheets, especially if they are made from high-quality bamboo fibers.
  • Wrinkling: Bamboo sheets that are not pure (i.e. mixed with other fabrics) may wrinkle easily, especially if they are not cared for properly. Sheets with high bamboo content are less likely to have this problem.
  • Limited Availability: You may find it hard to locate genuine bamboo bedding in your local shop. However, they are readily available online using the links provided above.
  • Special Care Instructions: Some bamboo sheets require special care instructions, such as washing in cold water and avoiding the use of fabric softeners.

How to Choose the Best Bamboo Sheets - Buyer's Guide

If you've decided that bamboo sheets are the right choice for you, the next step is to learn how to find genuine products.

Greenwashing is an issue in this market due to a lack of regulation. You have to be careful to avoid synthetic fabrics containing 1% bamboo and claiming to be sustainable.

So to help you do that, here's a quick buyer's checklist.

Certifications

The best way to ensure that the material used in your bamboo sheets is sustainable is to look out for official certifications, such as:

  • USDA Organic
  • STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX
  • Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

Material Weave

Most bamboo sheets tend to come in one of three weave types:

  1. Sateen: A smooth texture with a slippy, silky-smooth feel.
  2. Percale: Crisp and cool with a matte finish. Less slippy than Sateen.
  3. Twill: More cotton-like with minimal slip.

Bamboo Content

Some so-called bamboo sheets only contain a small percentage of bamboo material.

100% bamboo sheets are definitely the best you can buy. However, they’re also the most expensive.

Many brands/manufacturers will mix bamboo with other fabrics to reduce costs. The most common mix is 50% bamboo and 50% cotton. Ideally, look for organic cotton.

The general rule of thumb is the lower the bamboo content, the lower the quality of the sheets.

Steer clear of bamboo mixed with high levels of synthetic fabrics or unspecified microfibres.

Thread Count

Bamboo fabric is naturally softer than cotton, so the thread count of bamboo sheets is lower than cotton sheets.

A thread count of 250 - 350 will result in luxuriously soft bedding.

Fit

Fitted sheets are elasticated and easy to fit change.

Flat sheets are basically big rectangles of fabric that need to be tucked under the mattress to hold them in place.

One thing to bear in mind is the depth of your mattress. If you have a deep mattress, you might need deeper sheets.

Fabric Type

There are four main types of bamboo fabric:

  1. Rayon: A semi-synthetic textile usually made from bamboo, wood pulp, or cotton.
  2. Viscose: A type of rayon that uses a chemical process to produce regenerated cellulose. This can then be spun into fabric. The process can be wasteful and polluting if not adequately regulated.
  3. Lyocell: Produced in the same way as viscose but uses eco-friendly closed-loop processes, where resources are reused, and no pollution leaves the system.
  4. Bamboo Linen: The bamboo fibers are mechanically extracted rather than chemically extracted. This produces a stronger and more eco-friendly, but expensive material.

Price

A high price does not always indicate a better product.

However, from my experience of testing/researching for this article, price is a good indicator of your sheets' quality and eco-credentials.

I recommend spending at least $100 to ensure you’re getting a non-toxic and sustainable product. That doesn't mean you can't get good value for money though. There are several great sheet sets I tested that sell for around the hundred dollar mark.

Durability

A higher thread count is not only a sign of softer sheets. It can also help with increased durability.

Correct washing (see below) will also boost the durability of your bamboo sheets.

We checked all the products we reviewed for any signs of wrinkling or loose threads (and rejected any that didn't seem like they would last the distance).

How To Wash and Care For Bamboo Textiles

The fibers in bamboo fabrics are shorter than those in cotton, so they need to be treated with care.

Bamboo fabrics are suitable for machine washing, but you should always wash bamboo sheets in cold water. No fabric softener is needed due to the natural softness of the short fibers.

Doing so will reduce pilling, help prevent loose seams, and help keep your bamboo sheets softer for longer. It also has the bonus side effect of using less energy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should Bamboo Sheets Be Organic?

Not necessarily. Bamboo sheets that are certified non-toxic can be eco-friendly, even if not organic. They are often better for the environment than regular cotton, nylon, or polyester sheets.

Are Bamboo Sheets Eco-Friendly?

Yes - bamboo sheets are usually more eco-friendly than cotton, nylon, or polyester. Much depends on how it is grown, harvested, and manufactured.

You can rest assured that the bamboo sheet brands I have recommended above all source their material in an eco-friendly way. But not all brands do this.

Who Will Benefit From Bamboo Sheets?

Hot sleepers, eczema and allergy sufferers often benefit from bamboo sheets because they are temperature-regulating and have moisture-wicking properties.

Looking at the broader picture, if you are choosing bamboo sheets in preference to bedding made from synthetic fiber, then this helps the environment - so everybody benefits!

What is the downside to bamboo sheets?

The downside to bamboo sheets is that they are often more expensive than other types of sheets and require gentle care and washing to maintain their softness and durability.

They can also be prone to wrinkling more easily, which means they may need more careful handling to keep them looking smooth.

What type of bamboo is best for sheets?

The best type of bamboo for sheets is bamboo viscose, also known as bamboo rayon. Bamboo viscose offers a soft, silky feel, excellent durability, and good moisture-wicking properties, making it ideal for comfortable and breathable bedding.

What is the best thread count for bamboo sheets?

The best thread count for bamboo sheets typically ranges from 300 to 500 threads per square inch. This thread count strikes a balance between softness, durability, and breathability, providing a luxurious feel while still allowing for good airflow and moisture absorption.

Are All Bamboo Sheets Made In China?

While it's true that a lot of bamboo sheets come from China, you can still get brands made in different countries (including the U.S.). I’ve tried to include a mix of countries of origin in my recommendations.

Are Bamboo Sheets Warm In Winter?

Yes. Bamboo sheets are warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

What Bamboo Sheets Did Oprah Recommend?

The CozyEarth Bamboo Sheet Set made it onto a list of Oprah's Favorite Things. I did test the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet set, and they're decent viscose sheets. However, they faced stiff competition and didn't quite make the list.

Oprah might have expensive tastes, but the Cozy Earth sheets were twice the price of my top pick, and they didn't offer anything extra to justify that.

If anything, the bamboo fabric from Ettitude was a more durable, more lightweight material with a nicer texture and more effective moisture-wicking properties.

The Final Word

As an increasingly popular eco material, bamboo fiber is a wonderful natural resource. It’s fast-growing and sustainable, and it's no wonder eco-conscious shoppers are attracted to bamboo products.

However, some of the processes used by some companies to turn bamboo into fabric are anything but sustainable.

The Ettitude Signature Bamboo Fitted Sheet set came out top in my tests, and I highly recommend it.

Lyocell sheets offer the best balance of eco-friendliness and affordability.

Viscose and rayon are also acceptable, provided that you’re confident it's been produced in an eco-friendly fashion.

Your natural bamboo sheets will get plenty of daily use. I recommend spending as much as you can afford to get the best quality possible.
